Teenager jailed after ‘unprovoked attack’ in Chatham

A teenager has been jailed for 16 months after attacking a 16 year old boy.

Paul Ojo,19, hit the victim twice from behind in Upbury Way in April this year.

He then knocked the boy to the floor and kicked him twice in the back.

The victim, who was alone at the time, suffered a broken nose and other facial injuries.

Officers from medway Criminal Investigation Department published photos of Ojo, who was later identified by Metropolitan Police.

He was arrested and charged with causing actual bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty to the offence at Maidstone Crown Court and received 16 months in prison on Thursday 16 November.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Mark Donovan said: ‘This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on an innocent young man.

‘The victim was walking through Chatham, when a group of men, including Ojo, began shouting at him.

‘While the victim was trying to calm the situation, Ojo, bolstered by the presence of his friends, assaulted him from behind.

‘No person should suffer this treatment and I hope Ojo reflects on his actions and improves his behaviour while behind bars.’
