GENDER PAY: Kent’s Companies Still Living In The Dark Ages

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s is one of UK’s most popular supermarket.  Looking at their gender pay gap report Sainsbury’s women’s mean hourly rate is  14.8% lower than male workers.

To justify the pay gap rate they have a organisations called ‘PROUD’.

This organisation is to show that Sainsbury’s ‘recognise that gender identity is broader than simply male and female’ and everyone is valued the same. Women earn 85p for every £1 that men earn.

 

Apple

Apple is known for costuming millions of people int he world with the latest technology. Apple has a very high gender pay gap- women’s mean hourly rate is 26% lower than male workers.

The gender pay gap report is very for women equality and has opened the report with the Vice President Deirdre O’Brien stating ‘From our earliest days, we’ve believed that Apple should be a reflection of the world around us.

That’s why we’re deeply committed to increasing the number of women, of all races and ethnicities, who work, grow and thrive at Apple in dozens of professional fields and at all levels. Women earn 74p for every £1 that men earn.

ASDA

Hayley Tatum- Executive people director opens the gender gap report saying ‘Asda employs more than 149,000 people across the UK, 57% of whom are women.

Today, more than one third of our senior leaders across the business are female.’ Which may be a reason as to why the women’s mean hourly rate is only 12.5% than male workers. Women earn 88p for every £1 that men earn.

PRIMARK

Women’s mean hourly rate is 15.6% lower than male workers. Chloe Carlyle a worker from Chatham Kent says ‘It makes no sense to me as to why males get paid more, especially when they are on the same job role as me, it’s really aggravating and I honestly had no idea there was such a gap in pay.’

Women earn 84p for every £1 that men earn.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s is one of the worlds most famous fast food restaurant’s.

McDonalds pay is surprisingly very equal in comparison from the companies above.

Women’s mean hourly rate is 4% lower than men’s,women earn 96p for every £1 that men earn. Sonya Hibbin, 39. Works as a team leader in McDonalds
