Boozy week for Kent’s drivers

By James Hind

23 People were sentenced for drink driving around Kent in the first week of the new year.

Driving under the influence of alcohol was a popular topic in court at the start of January, with 23 being sentenced and another four people convicted after failing to supply a specimen of breath.

In the space of just six days 27 people were in Kent’s courts for drink driving related offences.

It’s common to see more drink driving campaigns on TV around the festive period but Kent police think that it’s a year-round problem.

A spokesman for them, said: “It is true that we run specific campaigns to target road safety at certain times of the year.

“Which might account for seasonal rise in the number of offences.

“The message is consistent regardless of the time of year: Don’t Drink and Drive”.
