What is SwingTrain?
SwingTrain is a high intensity cardio workout to the sounds of electro jazz, Charleston, and swing. The fitness class is an avenue owned by Swing Patrol (a leading Swing Dance school in the UK). The class became a new venture of Swing Patrol in November 2016.
What does a class consist of?
A typical session lasts approximately 45 minutes long. The session is made up of routines and dance steps associated with the eras of music played. For example, a basic Charleston step is used in a sequence along with a ‘Tacky Annie’ to typical 1920’s music.
The routines range from being intense and slow, so it’s an overall full body workout.
Will the class be beneficial to physical and mental health?
The class is a mixture of high and low impact, elements of the music played focus on certain body areas such as the core, legs and arms.
Your body’s co-ordination will improve:
Canterbury’s SwingTrain instructor, Ashleigh Keech said: “You have to think throughout the workout of what move is coming next, whilst physically moving at the same time. It really encourages the brain to engage. The class is my motivation Monday, my productivity on a Tuesday increases dramatically.”
Who can join in?
Anyone can join in you don’t need dance training to be part of the class.
She added: “We have people in the class from the age of 13 up to 70. It’s something for everyone.”
What should I wear?
For SwingTrain you should wear something you’re comfortable in, like basic gym gear, and wear trainers.
