Canterbury Cathedral closed after woman climbs onto scaffolding

Canterbury Cathedral was closed this morning after a woman climbed onto scaffolding.

Just before 10am emergency services were seen arriving at the site.

A post on social media appeared to show a woman high up on scaffolding around the cathedral.

The post has since been removed.

A statement issued by the Cathedral following the incident said: “Emergency services were called to Canterbury Cathedral at 9.20 this morning after a woman climbed up scaffolding currently in place for the restoration works on the building.

“After 30 minutes she came down from the scaffolding in the passenger hoist with members of Cathedral staff and the emergency services, and is currently talking to officers from Kent Police.
“The Cathedral was closed to visitors for approximately half an hour.”
The women is no longer with the police.
