Patients turned away at Canterbury Urgent Care Centre

Canterbury’s only emergency unit has turned patients away due to staffing issues.

Canterbury Emergency Care centre- which treats adult patients with acute medical illnesses and minor injuries- has refused patients because they have become understaffed.

With the busiest times of the year fast approaching for the NHS, this comes as another blow to the trust.

Canterbury Student, Chloe Ives, was turned away earlier this week when the centre said they were too busy to see her due to the staffing issues.

Chloe took two weeks off of university due to an infected abscess in her leg and therefore to return she needed regular dressing changes which the unit should be able to provide for her.

She said:

“I came back to Canterbury on the premise I would have my dressing changed every other day, but without this it’s difficult for me to return to uni. I need my wound to be packed but it’s something you can’t do properly without training, it’s quite concerning that they turned me away really.”

This is not the first time the unit has come under fire with East Kent NHS trust having the worst waiting times in all of Kent.
