Suspected thief remains in custody

A suspected thief remains in custody following a burglary at a house in Ramsgate.

Sunny Miah, 23, of Harrington Square in Camden Town was charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit fraud on Wednesday 16 May.

The charges relate to an incident that happened on Tuesday 15 May where cash and a mobile phone was stolen from a property in Crescent Road at around 6pm.

The elderly victims also reported that earlier in the day they were called by a man claiming to be a police officer from London. The man asked them to withdraw a large amount of money.

Mr Miah is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court via video link on Thursday 17 May 2018.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Leigh Morris said: ‘Whilst we investigate this incident we would urge residents to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to us immediately.

“Officers will never ask for money, valuables or bank details and no one should ever give out their personal details.

“Criminals who take part in this type of fraud will pick out vulnerable members of the public so we would ask people to think about their friends and family and their neighbours and pass on this warning advice to them. This will help prepare people should they receive a scam call.

“Any witnesses to the burglary, who we haven’t yet spoken to, or anyone with information that could assist with this investigation is urged to contact us as soon as possible.”
