5 ways to get vitamin D during the winter

A major epidemic for people living in the UK during winter is a lack of vitamin D.

This vital vitamin is needed, as it promotes bone growth and allows for your body to absorb calcium. However without it, serious health issues could arise such as: breast cancer, heart disease, depression and many more.

This is why it is essential to stock up on your Vitamin D levels, as when you have enough you have a reduced risk of flu, healthy bones, healthy pregnancy and much more.

1. The Sun

The first and most obvious way to increase your vitamin D levels is by getting more sun.

Understandably during the winter this can be more of a challenge than any other time of the year, as there is a lack of sunlight.

However this gives you an easy excuse to hop online and book yourself a well deserved holiday.

With that being said by purchasing a UV lamp you would be able to get all the vitamin D you need from the comfort of your own home.

2. Vitamins / Supplements

Another way to get your vitamin D levels up is by taking supplements.

This is because not everyone can afford to go on holiday and get their vitamin D through the sun, therefore this alternative would save you a lot of money.

Holland and Barrets is one of the stores that offer these supplements for an affordable price as many of their vitamin D products retail for under £10.

Cod-liver oil is another option too.

3. Fish

Fish surprisingly is a superfood that provides you with high levels vitamin D.

With that being said, this does not apply to all fish but a selected few, example being:

Mackerel, Herring, Halibut, tinned Tuna

4. Eggs

Everyone loves eggs, which is why eating them is such an easy way to get your vitamin D levels up, as they are filled with nutrition.

The most important part of the egg however is the yolk, as that is where all the vitamins and minerals are.

As well as this,  being a vegan is very trendy right now which means there are so many fun and exciting ways to eat your eggs an example being, avocado on toast.

5. Milk

Cow’s milk which is another product that is usually consumed on a daily basis, is another way to get the nutrient into your body.

This is because it is filled with nutrients and calcium.

However it is also fortified with high levels of vitamin D, which is why eating cereal for breakfast is a better alternative than toast.
