How much did your district spend on the Coronation?
One district in Kent has spent £60,000 over the Coronation weekend, which is estimated to have cost a total of over £10 million nationally.
It has been revealed that Dartford spent the most in the county for the three-day celebration.
Celebrations across the county included live streams, live music, concerts and street parties.
Here’s how much it all cost:
Kent County Council and Medway did not not reply to a freedom of information request by the openDemocracy.
Dartford spent the most out of all the districts by hosting a celebration in Central Park, offering 700 free tickets for children.
Bromley followed in second place spending £50,000. A live screening of the Coronation was held at the Queens Gardens and £20,000 was used to decorate the borough’s town centre for the joyous occasion.
Grants of £500 were also given to support community groups planning street parties or celebratory events across the borough for the Coronation.
Ashford spent £15,000 and held a live screening of the Coronation, with residents being urged to bike and cycle to Victoria Park, which included a performance from the Ashford concert band. The district also offered a party at the Piazza in Elwick Place.
Coming in at fourth place was Tonbridge & Malling which spent £4,227.61. A big picnic was held at Tonbridge Castle to celebrate the Big Lunch on Sunday and the district hosted the highest number of street parties with 48.
Swale spent £250, but didn’t mention on their press release how the money had been spent , although street parties took place in the area.
Sevenoaks spent £69.90 and held a big afternoon tea celebration, with fun activities like music performances, street vendors, helter-skelters rides, Punch and Judy show and much more.
The FOI did not show any spending for Canterbury, Folkestone and Hythe, and Dover. Thanet was not listed in the FOI.
