A clap for Medway Maritime as Critical Care gets outstanding rating
Medway Maritime Hospital’s Critical Care unit has been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission.
Their report highlighted many improvements to the hospital and the staff have been praised for individualised care towards patients.
However, the hospital has been told they are still required to improve in certain areas by CQC, as the now closed Dickens Ward is rated inadequate.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust released a statement from Medway Hospital’s CEO, James Devine. Using the hashtags #BestofCare and #BestofPeople, the CEO praised his staff on their efforts to improve certain aspects of the hospital.
“I am delighted that many of our improvements have been recognised; this is a tribute to our staff who have worked hard to raise standards of care, for example in Critical Care where we have seen a significant change.”

Consultant in anaesthesia and critical care medicine at Medway, Dr Paul Hayden also commented on the efforts of the department,
“Critical Care is just one example of several great teams we have at the hospital – I’m certainly proud to be part of the family.”
Matron for Critical Care, Jane Cox, shared how she feels about the efforts of her team.

Other elements of the hospital have also seen an improvement. The End of Life Care service has been rated ‘Good,’ with the report stating the staff, “truly respected and valued patients as individuals.”
There was also a special mention for the Prehabilitation programme. The ‘Prehab’ scheme focuses on increasing the fitness of patients, helping them lead to a better recovery from certain operations.
Support from the community also has flooded in, showing a true community spirit during this tough and uncertain time.
