Canterbury’s upcoming hotel summit
A meeting is being held on Friday to encourage investment into new hotels across the city.
As Canterbury is one of Kent’s much-loved hotspots, the Canterbury Hotel Summit seeks to help boost the local economy by generating more jobs for local people, identifyomg and overcoming investment barriers and attracting new hotel developers.
Local hotel owners have claimed that their trade has been “hampered by competition from Airbnb and university accommodation”.
The summit is being hosted by Canterbury City Council and being held at local university Canterbury Christ Church.
Cllr Chris Cornell, cabinet member for economic development and inclusion said:
“Canterbury has a lower spend per head than comparator cathedral cities and encouraging more overnight stays is key to supporting our local economy.
“Outside of the city, increasing our hotel offerings presents an opportunity to regenerate and provide customer choice in our coastal towns.
“The hotel summit is a great opportunity for us to encourage developers and investors to choose Canterbury as a fantastic place to grow their business.”
The summit will commence at Canterbury Christ Church University on May 9.
