How important is National Physical Education week?

This week emphasises the importance of physical and health education.

It promotes a healthier lifestyle through fitness and having fun while exercising.

There are a range of activities that individuals can partake in such as park runs or fitness classes at your local leisure centre.

Another way could be through teaching children at school about the significance of maintaining a good level of physical activity.

Ella Bedford teaches at a primary school in Kent. She mentioned how important it is for children to learn about physical education, not only for physical benefits but for mental and social as well.

As well as schools being taught about the importance of P.E, going to the gym is another strong way to uphold a healthy lifestyle.

Jay Bartley is a professional trainer at a leisure centre in Canterbury and states that seeing people leave his classes feeling more confident in themselves makes him feel stronger in himself and his work.

“It’s probably one of the most rewarding parts of my job knowing people leave my classes feeling stronger and healthier, it gives me a real purpose at my job. Whether it’s someone hitting a new personal best or improving their mental health.”

He says that hearing good feedback reminds him why he does his job; “helping people grow not just physically but, in all aspects of their life, seeing small wins turning into long term progress is fulfilling.”

One goal that Jay aims for is to encourage all abilities and ages to take part in any form of exercise.

National Physical Education and Sport Week is a reminder that exercise is not just essential for fitness but for building a healthier mindset and stronger communities.
