Kent health leaders urge vulnerable people to get Spring Covid booster
Health officials across Kent are urging vulnerable people to come forward and receive their free Spring 2025 Covid-19 vaccination as national uptake currently remains under 40%.
The deadline for taking up this new invitation is June 17.
Despite warmer weather and lower public concern, it is vital that people acknowledge that the virus still poses a serious threat to those over the age of 75 and to people with a weakened immune system.
Dr Anjan Ghosh, Kent County Council’s Director of Public Health, said: “Covid-19 remains a serious risk for our most vulnerable residents. Given this, if you are eligible, please take up the free offer of a spring vaccination when you are contacted by the NHS over the next few weeks.
“It will increase your protection against the virus while lowering the chance of complications should you catch it.”
Vaccinations are being delivered around Kent at pharmacies, and mobile pop-up sites as well as NHS staff visiting housebound residents and care homes to ensure the most vulnerable have the opportunity to get protected.
Anyone can fall seriously ill from Covid-19 with symptoms ranging from a slight cold to hospitalisation and even death.
Thousands of walk-in spots are available, with locations offering this service easy to find using NHS walk-in finder. Appointments can also be booked online using the official NHS website.
Dr David Whiting, the Director of Public Health at Medway Council, echoed Dr Anjan Ghosh’s statement.
Dr Whiting said: “We know that vaccination is one of the best ways to help keep people safe from COVID, and the spring booster programme is key to protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community. I would urge anyone who is eligible to make their appointment for the spring COVID-19 booster as soon as they are able to.”
