Margate burglar who stole from relatives jailed

A Margate burglar who stole from relatives has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Adam May, 25, of Osbourne Terrace admitted to stealing jewellery from a property in Margate and then selling it on. He was sentenced for burglary and fraud at Canterbury Crown Court on 20 November.

The court heard how May broke into a house that belonged to relatives on 4 February. He stole sentimental jewellery worth more than £4,000 and then passed it off as his own at a local pawnbrokers. He used his bank card and jobseekers allowance letter to open an account at the shop and sold the jewellery for several hundred pounds.

May was linked to the burglary by Kent Police officers when they located the stolen items. He was arrested on 11 February.
