Back Medway have also announced their partnership with the annual Rochester Castle Concerts, which are scheduled to take place in July 2021. They will showcase local talent as well as some big names, including, The Libertines and UB40. More will be announced shortly.
The competition will highlight the diversity and creativity of the community, and will give businesses more opportunities. If Medway were to win, it would also bring many economical benefits through tourism and the creation of local jobs.
Back Medway will be working with various partners and businesses, as well as the education and charity sectors. Locals are encouraged to get involved and to support the campaign.
Liz Moran, the chair for Medway Cultural Partnership, said: “Recognition as UK City of Culture has the potential to regenerate and transform Medway.
“We are particularly committed to empowering our young people to have a voice and drive creative and cultural change.”
The winner for 2021 was Coventry, they have since seen a surge of events and tourism to the area. Recently Coventry received one £3 million from The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport for their City of Culture Trust. Could the same happen for Medway if they were to win?
