5 unique ways to treat Canterbury mums this Mother’s Day

We may be recognising all of the iconic women of the world today on International Women’s Day, but this Sunday we’ll be celebrating the women closest to our hearts — that’s right, Mother’s Day is nearly here!

Mums don’t get rewarded nearly enough for the lengths they go to care for us — so why not treat her to something new this year?

Fortunately, Canterbury residents have no shortage of options for those of us looking to spoil our parent, whether your mum is the fun-loving seeker of new experiences, or looking for a well-deserved evening of relaxation.

Canterbury Cathedral

Any excuse for a family trip to Canterbury’s iconic landmark is a good one, but this weekend holds a great opportunity to gift your mother something special.

Ditch the supermarket flowers this year and head to Canterbury Cathedral’s floragami bouquet-making classes this Saturday, March 9. Floragami is just what it sounds like: combining the paper-folding skills origami to make beautiful floral creations.

It’s open to kids and adults alike, and best of all, the classes are free!

Canterbury Tails Cat Cafe

If your mum’s a cat lover, there is no greater place to be than the city centre’s pet paradise cafe, Canterbury Tails.

Having opened just last year, the cafe is the only cat cafe in Canterbury. Inside you’ll be greeted with cheerful staff, a wonderful atmosphere and, best of all, 25 of the friendliest felines you’ll ever meet.

Canterbury Punting tours

For parents who love a dose of local history along with a relaxing tour through some of Canterbury’s most beautiful scenery, look no further than the guided tours at Canterbury Punting.

Hop aboard one of the company’s traditional, handcrafted wooden boats for a 45-minute trip down the River Stour, with guides that have deep knowledge of the city’s history.

Bubble tea shops

Canterbury’s city centre is no stranger to hosting the latest and greatest trends, and right now the hottest fad seems to be bubble tea shops. We’re not messing around, either, as there are five to choose from — with a sixth coming soon!

Whether you want to let your mum decide or tour them all together, you have the choice of Teastones, Mooboo, Cha Lab, Ding Tea, and Bubbleology.

Corkk

Not a bubble tea fan? Well, there’s a great alternative for the mum who’s looking for a beverage with a bit more punch!

Corkk is Canterbury’s award-winning wine shop. Specialists in their field, the establishment offers some of the finest English wines around, along with a platter of locally sourced cuisine to boot. If she can’t get enough, you can treat her to a gift card, too!

Happy Mother’s Day

To all the Canterbury mums out there: thank you for everything, and have a wonderful weekend!
