Drivers set to face months of roadworks on A2 by Canterbury

Drivers will face months of road closures on the A2 connecting Canterbury and Faversham starting from May 16.

Works will begin on the London-bound carriageway from next week, with plans to start on the coast-bound carriage way from July 11 with no specific dates as of yet.

On May 16 motorists should expect the A2 London-bound from Wincheap to Brenley Corner to be closed up until Sunday May 19, with work taking place at night from 8pm to 6am.

With the exception of Saturday, May 18, the M2 London-bound from Brenley Corner to Rainham will also be closed at the same time.

The works on the A2 will continue from Thursday, May 23, up until Monday, June 24, which will also be closed at night, and only from Thursdays to Mondays.

A lane closure will be in place during the daytime, so expect slightly heavier traffic.

For local traffic, diversions will be in place from the Whitfield roundabout through the A256 and Thanet Way to Brenley Corner.

Work is being carried out to maintain the roads and improve safety which reduces the need for any future unplanned closures.

The closures are being coordinated with other works in the area to ensure that travellers face less disruption overall.

Closures are subject to weather conditions, and if anything should go awry, June 27 to the July 1 will be used as a contingency as well as July 4 to July 8.
