It is a day where people can commemorate firefighters who have died in service and worked so hard to keep millions of people safe around the globe.

People have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts and give thanks to firefighters across the world.

A minute’s silence was observed at 12pm in fire stations across the country at midday to reflect on all those who have died in service.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has tweeted about how they are marking Firefighters’ Memorial Day.

Firefighters’ Memorial Day is also known as St Florian’s day.

Saint Florian is the patron saint of firefighters and an old legend says that he put out a huge blaze with just one bucket of water, saving a village from ruin.
