Watch the moment Canterbury council truck dumps dirty water

This is the moment a Canterbury Environment Company (Canenco) truck dumped dirty water onto a Canterbury street last Monday.

The video was taken by a concerned resident, who asked not to be named, while she was walking her dog near the Millers Arms pub on St Radigunds Street.

She said: “All I can say is that I was walking my dog at 7 am, and as a concerned member of the public, saw this happening and took a video of it.

“This was so I could report it to Canenco and also to the council who said they were looking into it.”

Canterbury City Council launched an investigation to find out what had happened.

A spokesperson for the Council said: “This was an unfortunate and highly unusual incident.

“The driver had just finished cleaning a street and had collected a larger volume of water than usual on a wet day, and then went onto their break.

“The vehicle was parked on a road with a pronounced camber, and with the water moving over to one side as a result, regrettably it came out of the vehicle through the overflow pipe under pressure and the driver did not realise.

“The driver is upset this happened and lessons have been learned for the future.

“We can reassure people that we do have proper processes in place for emptying street-cleaning vehicles and that the incident that was filmed is definitely not our standard practice.”
