10 songs to help you through a breakup

Okay, so we all know that the grieving period of a breakup sucks, there’s no amount of chick flicks, ice cream, chocolate or supportive friends that will subside the pain and the empty feeling in your heart.

But there’s always a bright side to the grieving period, you get to listen to all the breakup songs and scream them whenever you feel like it.

That’s where this article comes in handy, here are some songs that will help you through a breakup!

Crisis – Joshua Bassett

Key lyrics: “Don’t you dare act like I didn’t love you, don’t go thinking I didn’t hurt too”

Even though it was only released on December 3, Joshua Bassett’s song ‘Crisis’ should be on the top of all heartbreak or breakup playlists from now onwards.

The lyrics pulled on my heartstrings when I was first listening to it and I wasn’t even going through a breakup. This song is perfect to scream on the top of your lungs in the shower.

You’re not Harry Styles – Dylan

Key lyrics: “To you, I’m an overly emotional, easily replaceable, overthinking dumb blonde” 

This is a reminder that no one is better than Harry Styles… even if they say they are.

This catchy tune will for sure get a little pep in your step. This song is perfect to sing whilst you’re blocking (or stalking, depending on how you’re coping) their social media profiles.

Bite – Avril Lavigne

Key Lyrics: “Hey you, you should have known better better than to fu#k with someone like me”

This song is the holy grail of breakup songs at the moment.

I don’t think there is a better song to be screaming whilst you eat your ice cream in bed.

This headbanging tune will be the top of your playlists from here on out, this song shouldn’t be just limited to your breakup playlists.

Fuqboi – Hey Violet

Key Lyrics: “Don’t want no fuqboi, cause they’re all the same, like a stain on your heart’s reputation”

This song should be your daily if not weekly reminder that “fuqboi’s” aren’t worth it.

You deserve more and better!

This tune is so catchy, you’ll find yourself humming it throughout your day. It’s been 5 years since this song was first released and I still find myself randomly singing it.

Stuck in your head – I Prevail

Key Lyrics: “You’re not the one I want in my bed, but I’m gonna be the song stuck in your head”

This headbanging song will be stuck in your head.

The screamo sections of this song are perfect to allow you to get your anger out whilst dancing around your bedroom. I don’t think there is a better break up song to dance to.

 

Traitor – Olivia Rodrigo

Key Lyrics: “God I wish that you had thought this through before I went and fell in love with you “

Everyone has heard this song at least once last year. Some people, like myself, may have heard it 101 times.

Whether you’re up to date with the drama or not, this heart-breaking song will for sure help you cry all the bottled up emotions out.

Songs I Can’t Listen to – Neon Trees

Key Lyrics: “And it’s all because we’re through, I’ve got a list of songs I can’t listen to”

Everyone has a list of songs, that their ex showed them, that they now cant listen to. It’s an inevitable thing!

This 2015 song is so catchy you’ll be listening to it after your breakup. It’s one of my favourites and I’m sure you will enjoy it too.

 

I don’t want to see you with her – Maria Mena

Key Lyrics: “Are you gonna keep her? Cause I don’t wanna see you with her”

This song literally says what we’re all thinking – We don’t want to see our ex with someone else.

This song is the perfect scream and cry song that we all need.

If you don’t cry to this song at least twice during the grieving period of your breakup… I’ll be shocked!

Bedroom Ceiling – SODY

Key Lyrics: “Is your bedroom ceiling bored like mine, of you staring at it all the time, ‘Cause it’s seen so many nights while I cry and I yell at the sky, for not telling you how I feel”

I won’t lie, this song pulls on all the heartstrings. It’s so relatable, I can’t even count the number of times I’ve laid staring at my ceiling thinking of my ex.

Do you know those moments when you just want to lay back look at the ceiling and have a good cry? Yeah, well this song is the perfect backing track for those types of moments.

ABCDEFU (Angrier) – GAYLE

Key Lyrics: ” But nothing’s getting through so let me spell it out, ABCDE  Fu#k you” 

This is the angriest song you’ll ever hear, which makes it perfect to finish your grieving period with!

You may have to spell it out to yourself first, but soon enough you’ll be singing this whilst deleting all your ‘couple photos’ from your phone and socials!
