Fundraiser raises £5000 in aid of Ashford explosion victims

Following the Willesborough house explosion yesterday (May 4) a fundraiser has been set up to raise money for those involved in the explosion.

A JustGiving page was made by the founder of the Facebook group, Ashford read All About It, Ben Farnham, 37, with the hopes it can provide help to those who need it most after the blast.

Mr Farnham hopes the community will be able to reach the target of £10,000 and the crowdfunding has already received over £5000 by almost 300 supporters.

Money Raised so far

He said: “We want to help all involved in the gas explosion at a time when you lose everything this will help.” Mr Farnham mentions.

“As a strong believer in the local community every little donation will help them work their way to get back on their feet.”

The link to the fundraiser was posted online to help reach more people and many locals have commented on the page offering those involved items that they have spare in their house such as; clothes, furniture and household items.

Ben thanked everyone who had helped out and added: “As a strong believer in the local community every little donation will help them work their way to get back on their feet”.

“We are hoping to donate essential items that the people involved need through the Asda Foundation – we have just set up a trolley for donations in our colleague area in the meantime.”

One of Ashford Asda’s Community Champions, Mariee Holland, aims to donate items with the help of the supermarket.

She said: “We are hoping to donate essential items that the people involved need through the Asda Foundation – we have just set up a trolley for donations in our colleague area in the meantime.”

A Lok and Store storage unit is being sorted to keep the items that people are giving out for those involved. If you would like to donate any items then head over to the Facebook page.
