Ashford cattery takes to Facebook for cat food donations

The Ashford garden cattery’s Facebook page has received great online support from locals when posting they were running low on cat food.

The shortage of dog and cat food has been caused by a “culmination of factors coming to head at the same point, including a rise in the UK pet population and a change in purchasing behaviours driven by the pandemic and exiting the EU”, the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) said. (Sky News)

So, Ashford garden cattery reached out to locals on their Facebook page to ask for donations of cat food.

Hi everyone, We are in desperate need of some Felix as good as it looks adult food , we have a few cats that will only eat Felix in the Cattery at the moment. Any donations will be very much appreciated ?

The pandemic has been a difficult time for us all and despite many people not working, donations are still being made where possible.

After speaking to Nicola Walker, who is a Press Officer for the RSPCA, she said letting people know animal welfare charities still need donations has been difficult. She added a lot of animal charities fund raising has had to stop and local branches have not been able to have their shops open.

If you can support a local animal charity we would support you to do it. – Nicola Walker

But, all animal welfare charities are working hard to get back to normal as we transition out of lockdown. Nicola also wanted to remind people that if they need help with their animals then they should call them for support or go to their website.

Every post made has comments from people saying they are going to donate to the cattery and some posts have received over 100 likes.

The response from followers of the Facebook page shows that in times of crisis, social media has immense power in spreading a message and it is not long until one post can reach hundreds of people.

Thank you for the wonderful donations today
