Maidstone United secure key signings ahead of next season

Maidstone United have secured four vital signings as they prepare for life back in the National League South.

This collection of signatures included popular midfielder Sam Corne and defender Gavin Hoyte.

The 2023/24 season will be Corne’s fifth season with the club after first signing in 2019.

Speaking to the club’s website, manager George Elokobi was excited to secure Corne ahead of next season.

“We know exactly what he brings to the team,” he said.

“He’s been excellent for us this season and an important part of what we want to achieve here.

“To get that commitment from him at this stage of the season is pleasing to me and it was something he was really keen to make happen too.”

The re-signing of Gavin Hoyte also adds key experience to the Stones defence as they look to recover from relegation from the National League.

Club Captain Hoyte hasn’t featured for the Stones since November due to injury but is well on the road to recovery.

Maidstone United had two further announcements of defensive reinforcements for the season ahead, something desperately needed after the Stones finished bottom of the National League with the worst goal difference.

Both Reiss Greenidge and Bivesh Gurung saw their contracts extended ahead of the next season.

Greenidge joined as free agent in October and produced some impressive displays before ending his season on the treatment table.

The imposing centre-half was sorely missed at the end of the season and its hoped he can bring some more dominant displays next season.

Gurung presented himself as a versatile squad option during the Stones injury stricken run in and the local lad will continue to fight for first team chances in the next campaign in the National League South.

Early bird season tickets are now available and can be purchased from the club’s website.
