Darent Valley Hospital continues to suspend home birthing services

Darent Valley Hospital bosses have made the decision to extend the suspension on their home birth services.

They first broke the news on April 10 that they were to suspend the service.

A statement was then released today via Facebook outlining why they will not be bringing back the service.

It said: “The Maternity Team are committed to providing safety care to mothers & babies and also to maintaining the safety of staff.

“Due to the current unprecedented situation with Covid-19, the nationwide lock-down and several other influencing factors, it is with regret that we have taken the decision to suspend the Homebirth Services at this present time.

“We wish to reassure all using our services that we have not taken this decision lightly or without considerable thought to any other suitable options.”

Hospital bosses however did announce that the service will be reviewed again next week.

The Kent and Medway Trust are reassuring mums to be that both them and their new borns will be safe amid this pandemic.
