Gillingham Burglar Jailed for Over 3 Years

A man who broke into two Gillingham homes in one night has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment, Kent Police have revealed.
Christopher Anderson, 32, from Beckton in London broke into the houses on Sandringham Road, Gillingham on 3rd December 2016.
Anderson stole a handbag and car keys from one house, before going on to steal the car. He then broke into a second house where he stole a purse and wallet.
The car was later found abandoned in East London and the purses discarded with the bank cards removed.
CCCTV footage from a Beckton supermarket identified Anderson and he was arrested at his home on 13th December.
Anderson pleaded guilty to the two burglaries on Wednesday 11 January and was sentenced to three years and four months.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Ian Mather said: ‘Burglary is a terrible crime that has a lasting emotional impact on victims, but by taking a few simple measures we can all reduce the risk of becoming a victim of those who seek to benefit by helping themselves to items that do not belong to them.
‘Keep keys, cash and expensive items out of view, use timer switches on lights and radios to make your home look occupied, keep gates locked and boundaries secure and lock away bikes, tools and garden items which could be stolen or used to break into your home.’
